The University of York is one of the UK’s leading research-led Universities (it rated 8th out of 172 universities in the UK in the last Research Assessment Exercise). The Department of Computer Science at York University is among UK's top research departments in Computer Science: 75% of its research staff were rated as internationally leading in the last Research Assessment Exercise, and assessments have also designated the Department's teaching as 'Excellent'. Current research is funded by grants and contracts totalling £5 million (EPSRC, EU, other government departments and industry such as BAE and Rolls Royce).
The Real-Time Systems (RTS) group at York was created in 1990 and has now 6 permanent academics and 24 research students/assistants. Its expertise on the design, implementation and analysis of embedded and real-time systems is well known world-wide. Current activities include the participation on the ArtistDesign Network of Excelence and the FP7 projects eMuCo (multiprocessor platforms, virtualisation, mobile communication), JEOPARD (real-time Java virtual machine iplementations, multiprocessor systems).
